Thirty years after the much-loved classic "There was an old lady who swallowed a fly" comes this fantastic prequel to the original title.

The Book & CD provides a wealth of activities. The book is very cleverly constructed so that the holes in the book work both backwards and forwards. The story is about a huge old lady who accidentally swallows a fish then swallows a great many animals one by one as a remedy, until she finally ingests one to many.

Each page is a song full of details and humor to help children remember things in a series.

As each animal is swallowed by the Old Lady, there is a cut out shape of the animal placed over the top of the one preceeding. The various animals shown in the old lady's belly are guranteed to have toddlers and preschoolers giggling.

The concept of size is physically demonstrated as each animal is larger than the previous one.

Supporting materials to stimulate reading activities and strengthen literacy skills are sold separately. Available is a set of 7 Bean-filled Cloth Animals (YD1140) that includes: Fish, Crab, Squid, Seal, Shark, Whale, and Sea that will extend and develop the reading experience and promote fine motor development as the child manipulates the figures.

Also available is the Old Lady Who Swallowed The Sea Puppet Doll (YD1155). This soft appealing Old Lady Puppet Doll allows children to act out the story as it is read and manipulate each of the bead filled figures for the old lady to swallow.

The song/CD encourages fun with visual clues provided from the book and manipluatives.

The end of the book depicts the old lady swallowing a fly, which of course provides an opportunity to read the original title (sold separately).
